OHS&W is sometimes seen as a burden, however the minimal load it adds can significantly increase your long-term comfort, safety and productivity. By being conscious of OHS&W in your daily work or study life, you can help reduce incidents and injuries, and ultimately create a safer and more productive University.
Every staff member and student has a legal responsibility to maintain OHS&W, and significant financial penalties apply to those who fail to fulfil their responsibilities.
Your Responsibilities
include but are not limited to:
- taking reasonable care to protect your own health and safety at work (as well as that of all others)
- co-operating and complying with University OHS&W activities (including using safety devices and protective equipment correctly)
The School and University's Responsibilities
include but are not limited to:
Providing and maintaining so far as is reasonably practicable:
- a safe working environment
- safe systems of work
- plant and substances in a safe condition
- adequate facilities for the welfare of employees
- information, instruction, training and supervision as are reasonably necessary to ensure that each employee is safe from injury and risks to health
